Indigenous Furniture Makers

At Korr, we are strong advocates for supporting both Indigenous furniture makers and endorsing Indigenous design firms and architects. We hope our clients will consider working with us to integrate Indigenous design voices throughout their projects, such as a feature boardroom table or reception desk, a unique set of chairs for special spaces in special projects. We can help facilitate such integration within our scope, or simply connect you with these emerging and talented makers.

Skyhouse Furniture

Ashley MacDonald

Ashley is a mixed Cayuga and Austrian furniture designer from Niagara, holding an Honours degree in Furniture Craft and Design, an Advanced Diploma in Creative Problem Solving, and a Red Seal in Construction Framing. Her diverse experience spans the US and Canada, working in construction, fine art, theatre, and luxury furniture. Her work focuses on shape, material, proportion, and adaptability. Form-driven functional pieces celebrate daily rituals we share and strive to create an emotional bond with their keeper through strong storytelling. Weaving themes of social justice, environmental commentary, street art, and contemporary design through a lens of urban Indigenous and European roots.

At Korr, we see furniture as having the most intimate relation to the body within the built environment.

We sit, work, sleep, eat, play and heal in furniture every day. We place things in and on it so we can access them later. Meanwhile, the ergonomics of furniture, including comfort levels and how we engage with it, can invite a sense of belonging for our bodies, wherever and whoever we are.
